I bought this machine looking for a way that my husband and I could monitor blood pressure independently since we are both blind. There are things I like and things I certainly dislike about it. I am able to use it so am giving it four stars. I took off one star because I fail to understand why a company that makes a product aimed at giving information to people who are blind would use a touch screen for its controls. I am accustomed to living in a society where things are not yet fully accessible. I hope that my review will enable you to evaluate your own potential ability to work with this machine in light of your abilities and needs.

The unit comes in a carrying case with four AA batteries included. The battery compartment on the back opens in the standard manner--no need for a screw driver to get the batteries in. An AC adapter is also included. There is a port for the AC adaptor and a port for connecting the blood pressure cuff. The ports are tactually different. The only other tactual control on the unit is the power switch. A print manual in English and Spanish is included.

If you hold this unit with the power switch toward the right and the battery compartment on the vottom, there are two controls on a touch screen-type interface at the right side of the top of the unit. You will not be able to feel them. This is important to know if you are totally blind and you are considering purchasing this unit. If you are used to estimating the location of controls on a touch screen, you can still operate the unit. If you want a unit with tactile buttons, do not buy this.

If you have the blood pressure cuff connected when you turn the unit on, the unit will attempt to take your blood pressure (and will tell you to be still and quiet while doing so). If no one's arm is in the cuff, the unit will detect an error and will tell you there was an error. If it takes your blood pressure successfully, it will give you your readings when the cuff deflates, including your heart rate.

The unit will give you an average of your last three readings, but I have not determined yet whether it is possible to access the memory. The top control does not give much audio feedback, and I suspect that the individual memory readings that you scroll through are not audible.

I have not figured out whether it is possible to control how much information the unit provides. I do not want to hear "According to the World Health Organization standards, your blood pressure is optimal," etc, after every reading.

I do like the size and the fact that I don't have to order a large cuff separately. I also like the carrying case--it is nice to be able to keep track of the components at home or while traveling.
