Breg SlingShot 2 Shoulder Brace (Medium) Review

I'm sorry. If you need a sling like this, it's because you're recovering from surgery or an injury. You're probably in pain.

I was asleep when I got my first one of these. I was wearing it when I woke up after a guy with a knife repaired my supraspinatus tendon. (Sounds more impressive with the Latin name.) The people who are paid to make your life miserable told my wife I was to wear it around the clock--for at least six weeks. And for me to sleep in my recliner so I couldn't turn over on it. For six weeks. Yes, my shoulder was messed up good.

Why did I buy another of something nobody wants? It's August as I'm writing this. About two weeks into the six, I started thinking about what it was going to smell like after I wore it 24/7 for a while. You can wash the sling, but not the pillow, by hand, cold water, drip dry, and you won't like wearing it wet.

Second advantage to having another one: when you take all the straps off to wash them, having a pattern to see how to put them back sure is nice.

Suggestion: get rid of the rinky dink little pad on the shoulder strap. It's too small and I'm sure putting Velcro on the inside seemed like a good idea to somebody, but it assumes you're always going to have the strap the same length. If you sit in a car or your recliner, the strap is going to either go slack or need to be loosened so the pad will be in the wrong place. Go to the auto accessories department of [some big store] and spend three bucks on one of the imitation sheepskin pads they sell to keep the seat belt from rubbing your neck. The store I went to even had them in black. It's a big improvement.

Suggestion 2: eventually, maybe shortly, you're going to need some real exercise--a walk or something. Double a soft hand towel and put it inside the sling, so it wraps around your forearm and you sweat on it. If you need it, put a towel between your abdomen and the pillow.

Oh, the review: I'm not medical, but my physical therapist says these are a lot better than the old ones. I don't have any way of knowing whether this one is better or worse than any other sling, but it's been holding my arm in place pretty well.

I looked around the web and found Amazon had the best price. I can't find the size anywhere on the sling, so I went to the manufacturer's web site and found the sizing chart so I'd know which one to order. I specified standard shipping, but it arrived in about two days.
