Product Description
This is IMCO's long time original design with old style pattern finish and windscreen. IMCO of Austria had been manufacturing lighters since 1918 and are now out of business. All IMCO lighters run on regular lighter fluid, and come complete with cotton wick, and flint. Lighters have the unique feature of lighting without touching the sparking wheel. Minor engineering changes have been made over the decades to make it better with time. It has an excellent performance record and features such as a wind screen in the Super models. Just light it, then pull out the lit fuel canister for lighting the campfire or your pipe! Get one of these great lighters today!Austrian Windproof Petrol Lighter - Super In Blister Box Review
IMCO lighters are affordable and well designed lighters. I like them much better than Zippos. Some sites that sell these lighters offer a 10 year guarantee. I've ordered two of these lighters on Amazon and in the past I had bought one other elsewhere. However there are a few things you need to know if you haven't owned a IMCO lighter before.1.) New IMCO lighters are usually difficult to light when using zippo flints. I haven't researched why this is but I suspect that the threads on the strike wheel need to been worn down a bit. My old IMCO lighter was like that till after a year and then it was perfect. I've had it for over five years and it's still in great and reliable condition.
2.) IMCO lighters do eat up flints quicker than Zippos. The reason for this is that it's designed to light the wick with each strike for a reliable light. IMCO understands this and it's by no means a flaw, and they do have a small compartment to store an extra flint in case you need it. Keep in mind that the longer you have the lighter, the less it will chew up flints. Like everything else of good quality, it needs to be broken in.
3.) The metal casing will scratch easy. This really isn't a problem but I wear a ring on my right index finger and you can notice a great deal of scratches on the side of the lighter. The scratches aren't visible unless you're looking for it. These lighters are built to last so don't let a few scratches bother you.
4.) These are small, light weight lighters (well, the one's I bought are). Although I normally prefer a slightly larger lighter, it's actually a more practical size. IMCO lighters won't make your pockets bulge out if you are like me and carry a load of items in your pockets. However, don't keep your cell phone in the same pocket with these lighters because the edges can scratch your phones something fierce.
5.) Be prepared to talk about this lighter every time you light someone's cigarette because it does draw some attention. It's a good looking lighter with a classic style and most people I've had ask about it wanted to know where to buy one. This little lighter is attractive.
6.) The design is brilliant. Changing flints are so easy (anyone who owns a zippo lighter will find that replacing flints rather taxing). However, this is not the only feature. You can easily remove the cylinder and it can act as a candle. If you suffer a power outage at night and don't have a flash light handy, remember your IMCO lighter.
I can not express how much I love these lighters enough. The only reason why I have so many is that if I lose one, I have back ups. Very affordable and excellent design.
