It has been an especially gray winter here in Pennsylvania, and this light therapy box has helped me get through it by blasting my face with intense light 30 minutes a day. I've always suffered from mild SAD but never done anything about it. Until now. Wow, has it made a difference! February actually seems bearable.

The lamp is extremely easy to use. Just position it about 18-24 inches from your face, and press the button. It comes preprogrammed for 30 minute cycles, which can be adjusted up or down in 15 minute intervals. When the time is up, the lamp shuts off. (The instructions recommend starting at 30 or 45 minutes and then dialing down the time after a week or so; I've always stuck with 30 minutes.) There is also an optional ionizer feature that is activated by a second button. The light is intense, but within moments I get used to it and can read the newspaper, eat breakfast, browse the internet, etc. The wide base ensures that it rests steadily on a flat surface, and the angle is preset so that it will aim itself slightly upward at the face. I can use this box on my desk or on my breakfast bar with the same effect because there is a standard chair-to-table/desk top ratio. From the first use, I could tell that it helped because I felt a little letdown when the light shuts off. And then I felt a surge of emotional energy. I wonder now why I went for so long without a light therapy box.

I do have one complaint about mine: sometimes the light flickers. My daughter has the same model, and she says hers never does this, which suggests that mine is slightly defective. Because I received it as a gift, I did not return it, although I recommend that anyone experiencing the same effect should exchange it for a new one, if possible. My experience may reflect a quality control issue, hence the four instead of five star rating. I love everything else about it.
