I'm not a healthcare professional, so I can only describe how Prisma has worked for me and how my wound care specialist told me to use it. Health insurance typically does not pay for Prisma because it is technically an over-the-counter wound "dressing." I'm frankly surprised that it doesn't require a prescription because (1)it does not contain instructions for use, (2) it isn't a "bandage" at all but a freeze-dried matrix of silver, collagen, and oxidized regenerated cellulose that works by dissolving into a moist "exuding" (I think that means bleeding or weeping) wound bed and thus changing the chemical environment of the wound to promote skin growth, (3) improper use of the product can mask underlying causes of a wound, and (4) most doctor's haven't even heard of Prisma or this class of products and cannot advise patients how to use it. Thankfully, Amazon allows reviewers to mention other sellers. At [...], I got a box of 10 4.34 square inch hexagons of Prisma for $100 plus $7.95 shipping.I use a wheelchair, and one consequence of my disability is that my hips have become locked at a 90 degree angel, in a sitting position. Despite following a daily regimen to prevent it, I often get small but deep, bleeding open wounds in the crease between my hip and abdomen due to candida. These wounds hurt like a paper cut times ten. Before seeing a wound specialist, my doctors kept making my wounds worse by having me use topical medications and antiquated "wet to dry" cleansing and dressing methods. I now use Prisma by cutting off a sliver of it the same size as the wound surface and laying the sliver on the wound every 24 hours. I put it on right after showering, but I do not directly wash the wound while using Prisma. It's okay for the wound to get wet in the shower and gently patted dry, but I must not rub or shear the fragile new skin growth and I want to avoid removing the helpful dissolved materials from the previous Prisma that are still in the bed of the wound. I put a strip of cotton flannel cloth over the Prisma to hold it in place, and sometimes I have to use paper tape to hold the cotton flannel still. Each day, the wound gets smaller and shallower, and the sliver of Prisma I need also gets smaller. Usually the wound closes within a week of treatment. I hope this information is helpful to others.
