I'll start by saying that mosquitoes love me, but I don't feel the same about them. I live in southern Florida, where mosquitoes are active every month of the year. I get a lot of bites, and I have a pretty strong itching and swelling reaction. For these reasons I go through a lot of repellant.

I have tried other brands of mosquito repellant - even other types of 'OFF!' repellant - and the 'Deep Woods' is the best one. I use the aerosol can for hard-to-reach places (shoulders and back) and places where it's hard to spray without holding the container at an odd angle (like the back of my legs) because the aerosol can works even upside down. I use the spritz bottle for applying around my neck and chest where it's hard to apply the aerosol without overspraying into my face. I'll often just spritz a little bit in my palm and apply by hand.

I actually prefer the Deep Woods because the oily base makes it is easier to apply evenly, and it seems to be more persistent. OFF! makes a 'Smooth and Dry' formula, but I always get bitten after using it. It has, I think, an alcohol base that evaporates almost instantly. This means that missing even the smallest area opens a window for a mosquito bite. The Deep Woods and the Smooth and Dry both have the same concentration of DEET, so I can only assume that the difference in effectiveness must come down to applicability of the oil vs. alcohol base.
